Cold and Flu Season is Here!

Cold and Flu Season is Here!

The key to supporting the immune system is to realize that there isn’t one. That’s right there is no such thing as the immune system. The systems such as the respiratory system, the reproductive system, the endocrine system, etc…, are complete functioning systems with a clear set of organs and functions. The human body does not have a single immune system. It is really better described as an Immune Alliance among various systems and organs, which when coordinated by the brain, give an immune response to the presence of things like viruses and bacteria.   This Alliance is composed of the thymus gland which produces lymphocytes, the spleen for antibodies, the long bones where blood cells are produced, the stomach where hydrochloric acid kills parasites and bacteria, the intestines where the intestinal flora kill pathogenic microbes and manufacture B12, and the liver for detoxification, enzyme production, and nutrient storage.   Therefore, what we refer to as the “immune system” cannot be supported without addressing the entire health of all of these systems. This can be a daunting task, because the only thing you have to support is…well everything. The product that we recommend that does this is Immuplex. It combines vitamins A, C, E, B12, folic acid, zinc, copper, chromium, iron, selenium, with glandular extracts from bovine thymus, liver, and spleen. This product is so complete I often prescribe it as a prenatal vitamin.   In this day and age of highly processed food it is almost impossible to get the nutrition we need to actually keep any of our systems working, let alone our immune alliance. So, I recommend that you follow the rules outlined in the Page Diet (8 pages of dietary guidelines fine-tuned over decades of clinical research), and that you take Catalyn, our multivitamin from Standard Process. A more complete protocol covering all the basic systems would be: Catalyn, Cardioplus, Chlorophyll Complex, and Min-Tran. Ask for our “The Basics” handout when you are in the office.   Stress is a big problem, especially around the holidays. We know that stress wreaks havoc with your adrenal glands. If getting rid of your stress is not an option, we recommend you support the adrenal glands with Drenamin. This might be the most prescribed vitamin in my office.   If you are feeling emotionally exhausted over the holidays where your brain is tired and you feel like you want to cry, we have a great product called Min-Chex. This product has the precursors (basic building blocks) for neurotransmitters. This is important because neurotransmitters in the brain can become depleted when under a lot of stress. When this happens it makes it tough to cope with the holiday stresses....
